When I was building the architecture for Futureproof Meridian, I knew we needed a space dedicated purely to the ABSURD
Sometimes, the only response is a to laugh or cry.
My Heroes
Ted Wragg, the late, great godfather of educational satire, who brilliantly exposed the gobbledygook dumped on schools by inventing fictional, pompous bureaucrats.
Ivan Initiative: This was a Ted creation. Ivan was the head of "Kafka Academy"
"Tony Zoffis" (Andrew Adonis, in Blair’s team)
Ofsted Inquisitors: fail a thriving, joyful school for mis-filing paperwork.
Ian Hislop and the team at Private Eye, the undisputed masters of the deadpan takedown, who simply print the ridiculous things people say and let the hypocrisy speak for itself.
Polly Filler / Phil Space: Fictional journalists, copy-and-paste PR mouths.
Pseud’s Corner: Pretentious jargon, quotes from art critics, CEOs, politicians
James O’Brien, the forensic dismantler of logical fallacies, who uses relentless patience to unravel systemic nonsense on the daily airwaves.
"Can someone please explain to me the exact mathematical formula used to calculate a seven-year-old's resilience on a Tuesday?"
When I created this NON sense strand, my initial thought was: here’s the candid truth: I would absolutely love to do that : and then : but my brain just doesn’t happen that way. I am an educator, a strategist, and an eternal optimist. I default to fixing.
So, what will this space actually be as we raise our collective eyebrow.
Welcome to the NON sense. Let’s keep an eye out.
